Barrier Plus™ Packaging Continues Winning StreakHonored in the 2010 AmeriStar Packaging CompetitionMilwaukee, WI, October 31, 2010 - Paper Machinery Corporation announced that its Barrier Plus™ packaging technology has been declared a winner in the 2010 AmeriStar Packaging Competition, in the Promotional category. The competition showcases the most ground-breaking, innovative packages of the year. Introduced in 2004, Barrier Plus™ was first utilized to form preprinted, two-piece convolute plastic pots for flowers and plants. Paper Machinery Corporation won a World Star award that year for development of the container and machinery. The AmeriStar honor recognizes PMC and Visstun Inc. of Las Vegas for producing unique promotional cups formed from clear plastic sheet. In addition to offering exceptional product visibility not achievable with traditional thermoformed cups, Barrier Plus cups also preserve the comfortable "mouth feel" of the rolled rim. The beverage cups entered into the AmeriStar competition pass the leak test due to special heat seal technology from PMC. Further, the polypropylene material combined with UV ink formulations now meet top tray dishwasher requirements for multiple cup use. Barrier Plus™ cups also address economic and environmental concerns. In contrast to traditional thermoformed cups, Barrier Plus cups use less material - the caliper is specified at .015" or .020". Recycled materials and fillers such as calcium carbonate bring economies to the process. And the polypropylene material in Barrier Plus™ promotional cups is recyclable as a single monomer material container. To be successful, promotions must both appeal to the target audience and also achieve the advertiser’s objectives. The Barrier Plus™ and Visstun entry won the day by presenting a high quality appearance, while displaying the brand identity to advantage. It demonstrated that you can run an effective promotion using disposable cups, without the costs and liabilities of glass. |
