Web Brake — Electric Eye Feeder   SB 015.1

Service Bulletin: SB 015.1

Subject: Web Brake — Electric Eye Feeder

Recommendations:

A new type web brake assembly may be installed to replace the original finger brake located at the rear of the feeder table on electric eye feeders manufactured between 1968 and September 1974. The replacement assembly is as shown on the enclosed partial assembly drawing 2348o-E.

The unit consists of side support plates, cross member, and a yoke assembly, having a one way sprag clutch to serve as the hold back brake force to prevent the web from sliding back when the segmented rolls are not pinching the idle web during die stroke. The unit also includes a single lever lift eccentric for ease of release during web threading,

The new unit replaces the old one completely and utilizes the existing mounting holes. Installation also requires the insertion of a supplied carbide wear button in the face of the feed table below the sprag clutch contact face. By machining a 21/32″ diameter counterbore by 0.125″ deep into the feed table, the insert may be installed with a suitable epoxy or adhesive. This-will prevent any wear depression from taking place on the feed table surface.
