Subject: Safety Upgrade for older PMC equipment

Recommendations: 

Some older model Paper Machinery Corporation machines had the operators’ controls mounted on the bottom maker inside of the machine guard. These machines are started with the operator side gull wing guard door in the open position. The guard door is then closed before a timer expires which would cause the machine to stop for a guard open fault.

Paper Machinery Corporation has designed a retrofit that moves the operators’ control station onto a goose-neck mounting so that the operators’ station extends through the closed gull wing guard door. This retrofit includes a control panel that integrates additional safety features such as: emergency stop relay, 2-hand control safety relay and newer up-to-date safety bypass features. The upgrade will cause older model machines to be operated in a manner similar to our newer model machines.

Paper Machinery Corporation strongly urges anyone with this older style of machine control to immediately install this safety upgrade to their machine(s).
