Subject: Updated COVID-19 Policy

Following are updated guidelines and policies with respect to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The situation is changing quickly and we will make changes as necessary.

Temporary Attendance Policy

  1. Employees who are experiencing flu like symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath are requested to stay home until they are well for 24 hours. You may use your paid time off, or if you wish take unpaid time. The unpaid time off will be considered administrative leave and will not be considered an unexcused absence.
  2. Employees who have been exposed to others with flu like symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath are also encouraged to stay home until they are sure they will not become ill. You may use your paid time off or take unpaid time, which will also be considered administrative leave.
  3. If you become sick with the coronavirus you must remain off work until you receive a physician’s OK to return. You will be granted additional paid time off (PTO) for the time you are off work, and you will not be required to take unpaid time off.
  4. If you are quarantined because a member of your household (defined as somebody who regularly lives with you) has come in contact with the coronavirus you will also be granted additional PTO for the time that you are off work. You will not be required to take unpaid time off. You will be required to provide documentation of quarantine.
  5. Employees who need to work alternative schedules to accommodate child care, school closures, care of elderly relatives, and so on may work 2nd or 3rd shift, or some other schedule.  Any alternative schedule must be coordinated with and approved by your supervisor and the human resources director.

Other Important Information

  1. Non-essential travel for business both overseas and domestic is now prohibited.
  2. Employees who are returning from vacations outside of the local area are requested to self-quarantine for 14 days (based upon CDC guidelines) if you have been to any area (domestic or foreign) with known coronavirus outbreaks. You must inform human resources and your supervisor if you decide to self-quarantine for a period of time. If you take unpaid time off it will also be considered administrative leave and will not be considered unexcused absence.
  3. Non-essential visitors to the plant are prohibited. We will continue to allow those who regularly provide services (uniforms and shop towels for example) to visit the plant. Any visitor who exhibits any flu like symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath will be immediately escorted from the premises.
  4. Our cleaning crew has been instructed to pay special attention to door handles, bathrooms, and any other area that we regularly touch. Additional cleaning supplies will be made available so that timekeeping devices and other items with which we come in contact can be cleaned after use.
  5. The opening of our onsite clinic has been postponed on the advice of Dr. Seder, the occupational health physician who will supervise the physician’s assistants. His concern is that if we open the clinic people who feel ill will come to PMC instead of staying home. We will open the clinic when Dr. Seder feels it is appropriate to do so.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience during these unusual times. Don’t forget that personal hygiene is the best defense against this illness! Wash your hands often, and long enough that you can sing “Happy Birthday’ twice. Your co-workers will thank you!

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact your immediate supervisor or Alan Schmidt.
