Subject: Bottom Reformer Ram Lubrication

Recommendations: 

All Bottom Reformer Units using a heated Reformer Die should be altered to incorporate high temperature grease lubrication in place of oil lubricant.

Due to the transfer of heat from the Reformer Die back into the Ram support bushings oil lubrication is not adequate. The existing oil cup and felt wick material in the Base Bracket 18304-D should be removed. Then drill ‘R’ (0.339) diameter thru and pipe tap 1/8 NPT for Alemite fitting 1613-B.

Lubricate the Ram surface and fill the reservoir between bushings with high temperature grease such as Shell Type Darina 2 and reassemble. Lubricate thru grease fitting every twenty four hours or as required.
