Service Bulletin: SB 047.1
Subject: Rimming Lubricants
Recommendations:
Whenever a spinning curl tool is used on a G-1000 heat seal model machine it is necessary to minimize the frictional heat or scuffing effect such tooling has on the polyethylene laminate. While a general purpose food grade pure white mineral oil may be adequate, the use of a food grade siliconeoil offers superior results. Silicone does have a premium cost. Its use often allows more tolerance to tooling, paper or laminate variables. We have been asked to specify several U.S. grade oils of the types described for customer’s local procurement or an equivalent.

CAUTION: Whenever silicone is used for a rimming lubricant caution should be taken that this material is not used on the bottom die web lubricator. This misapplication can cause poor bottom seals on heat or glue sealing.
In fact, excessive use of mineral oil on bottom webs can have an adverse effect particularly on post waxed cold cups.
